Grantee Spotlight: TAKE2 and TAKE THE LEAD

Raines Gammon and The Girl Next Door, 2024 TAKE2 high-score Junior Jumper rider

We’re excited to highlight one of our remarkable grantees, TAKE2 and TAKE THE LEAD, proud recipients of 2024 Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) support! Since 2016, TCA has partnered with TAKE2 to present the TAKE2 Junior Rider Award, which recognizes young riders who excel in their equestrian pursuits while promoting the use of retired Thoroughbreds. Additionally, this year, TAKE2 added $500 bonuses for the top Junior Rider in each division of the TAKE2 Finals and for the High-Score Junior Rider in the TAKE2 Thoroughbred League.

TAKE2 has made significant strides in promoting Thoroughbred aftercare, emphasizing the versatility and talent of retired racehorses. Through its programs, TAKE2 encourages junior riders to compete on Thoroughbreds, showcasing their skills in a supportive environment. This initiative provides these horses with a second career while fostering a love for the breed among the next generation of equestrians.

TAKE THE LEAD is another vital program within this initiative, focusing on the welfare and transition of retired racehorses into new careers. By providing financial assistance for retraining and adoption, TAKE THE LEAD ensures that these horses receive the care and support they need as they embark on new journeys. This program is instrumental in building a community around aftercare, connecting trainers, riders, and owners who are dedicated to giving these horses the best possible futures.

We could not be more proud to support TAKE2 and TAKE THE LEAD. Their commitment helps ensure that retired racehorses live happy, healthy lives beyond the track.
